1. Sandy Bay Bungalows

This resort is located on Haad Yao beachfront.

The advantage of staying here (on the North West side of Koh Phangan), is the sunset!! Best sunset in Thailand!!

It is also much more chilled and quiet here as it’s further away from Haad Rin beach (the full moon party location).

See heart on map for location.

The restaurant

This is how everyone should start their day! Eating breakfast with our toes in the sand.

Thai green curry and Phad Thai are our absolute favourite dishes and a big reason why we love coming to Thailand! However, we cant help but crave some “normal” food every now and again.
Thank goodness for Sandy Bay burgers!!!

The Room:

January 2012: We stayed in room 208 viewpoint superior bungalow- see view. We paid 1500 Baht per room/ per night (peak season). It had a double bed, ensuite bathroom with a hot shower, balcony, air-conditioning, fan, and a safe. The room gets cleaned daily (sometimes), however we did have a few small ant friends sharing our bed sheet the one night.

This room has an incredible view! These two pictures were taken from our private balcony.

Our friends, Jake and Janet, stayed in the fan bungalow- garden/ sea view room, which was exactly the same, just minus the aircon and sea view. They paid 850 Baht per night (peak season).

This resort is ideal for lazy days by the pool!

Just saying..

The local Thai people are incredibly friendly and hospitable, so we were quite surprised by the lack of assistance from the manager. We actually read on TripAdvisor beforehand about the bad service from the staff, but we decided to overlook it because this resort looked so beautiful!! We will still absolutely go back, it’s just a pity when resorts feel that they don’t need to focus on service because they have the best facilities and views (which they really do)!!

2. First Villa Resort

This resort is on Baan Tai Beach, Koh Phangan. It is completely central which is great if you plan to explore the whole island!! It is 15 minutes from Haad Rin beach (Full Moon Party).

This resort is so so stunning!! It has a pool and jaccuzi right on the beach!

The resort definitely had a young vibe when we were there, which made for a great pre-drinks party before the Full Moon Party at the resort’s beach bar.

The Room

January 2013: We stayed in one of their back rooms. One of our favourite travel hacks is to find a nice resort and then book the cheapest room (this way you pay less but get the same facilities and location). When we arrived late at night, the reception staff were not too sure of our booking and the back rooms were all already full. Luckily we had printed out all of our emails and confirmations as proof which resulted in an upgrade! Yay! Not too sure what they would have done if we didn’t provide proof though?!

Took this photo at 8am on our way home from the Full Moon Party

As you can see from the picture, the beach provides great views, but isn’t the ideal swimming spot as there is limited sand and it is very shallow (knee deep for at least 50 metres). However, it’s just a short scooter ride to some of the best beaches on the island so we were happy.
