Zona Braza Beach Lodge

Best decision !!!
Quiet, secluded and plenty vitaminSEA !!

This resort is located in the Gaza Province of Mozambique, at Praia de Chizavane beach, which is 40kms North of Xai Xai towards Inhambane. There is a 10km hard sand road from the national road to this resort (no need for a 4×4 to reach the lodge).

It is also an ideal fishing hotspot! The owners are actually pro-fishermen and are more than happy to share their secrets with you at the bar.

The bar and restaurant is situated on top of the hill with a view over the sea. They serve really good local Mozambique dishes including prawns and local fish.

There is an entertainment area including a pool table and dart board.

There is a pool which is ideal in December as it gets super hot! They provide pool loungers and umbrellas which goes really well with their amazing cocktail list!!

Did we mention the view from the pool and restaurant !!!!

This beach carries on for literally as far as the eye can see! We would take a walk and set up our umbrella and be completely alone for the entire day! This is super rare and special!! There is a reef further out which provides a nice flat lagoon for a good swim and snorkel.

The Room

Jan 2014: We stayed in the Vitamin Sea bungalow and paid R550 per unit per night (peak season).

It has a double bed, mosquito net, ensuite bathroom with a shower and a wooden balcony.

This particular room is ideal for two couples or a family traveling together as the lapa/ braai facility and kitchen joins the two bungalows together.

Some tips

  • Buy all your food essentials before arriving at the resort as the  nearest town is around 50km away (Xai Xai). That is if you are not planning on eating at the restaurant. When we were there, we found a small tuck shop down the beach that sold eggs, ice, milk, bread etc. We thought we would buy fresh seafood from local fishermen, but they never came, so veggie braais it was.
  • Do not try driving down to the beach area if you don’t have a serious 4 x 4. It is a very steep soft sand downhill which makes a sharp 90 degree turn left at the bottom. The way down is easy, but a different story on the way back up. We got stuck for almost two hours in our Land Rover and after reducing our tyre pressure to 0.8 bars we eventually got back to the top before the tide came in.
  • Pack a cooler box full of drinks and food with your umbrella, beach bats, chairs and fishing rods. Take a walk down South on the beach and set up your camp for the day. There is really nice fishing and swimming spots!
