Hot Air Balloon Ride in Vang Vieng
An absolute dream come true !!
Balloon riding has been top of mind and top of our bucketlists ever since our travels in Myanmar.
You spend a week in Bagan watching the endless hot air balloons rising over the fields of ancient stupas and pagodas, and tell us you’re not itchy to fly away in a woven basket!
But of course, our budget didn’t allow for it (not that we ever thought it would). We’ve also always thought that the balloon ride in Tanzania has to be the best excursion in the entire world – floating above the entire wildlife migration in the Serengeti National Park. Turkey has also been extremely tempting (just google it for a second – it’s INSANE)! But these are the tours you only think about as a dreamy thought and not as a tangible or shall we say feasible option while on holiday.
Balloon rides we’ve looked into cost roughly:
Bagan | Myanmar : 320 USD
Serengeti | Tanzania : 546 USD
Cappadocia | Turkey : 215 USD
Which gets us to our main point:
Vang Vieng in Laos has by far the cheapest balloon ride, for only 85 USD per person.
SOLD!!

Which tour agency did you book your hot air balloon from?
Hi there, we found the company in Vang Vieng. The tour agencies sell tickets but you can negotiate the price. The company was called ‘Hot Air Balloon over Vang Vieng’, which was their logo on their Land Rover vehicles that drive around the town (they don’t have a website so we doubt you can book before hand). Amazing post! I can’t believe that there is the service of hot air balloon in Vang Vieng and the price is quite cheap. I always want to try it in Cappadocia to have the breathtaking view. Thus, if I can’t travel to Turkey, I’ll go to Laos, particularly Vang Vieng as an alternative.
