Honeymoon Bliss

In short, we stayed for a week at a 4.5 star, all-inclusive beach resort in Mauritius.

This was the best wedding decision we made! If you feeling unsure yourself or looking for some reassurance in prioritising a honeymoon, then read our post Why you have to go on honeymoon. We are the King and Queen of justifying travel!

How we decided on Mauritius

We did a lot of research on where to go on honeymoon. We wanted a island paradise vibe and only having one weeks’s leave, we wanted the flight to be pretty direct. We did look at Seychelles first as it is close and absolute postcard paradise, but it was just way out of budget. We looked at Maldives and Bali but like I said, we only had a week and we didn’t want to waste any time in a plane!! Zanzibar was another great option as a close and affordable island holiday, so hopefully we come back to that option for an anniversary trip !!

Mauritius it was !!!
The next step was where to stay in Mauritius. This is what we found:

  • West: The best – the least wind, the water is more clear and it has the most activities
  • East: Second best – quite a bit of wind, not as much activities as the West
  • North: Nice but crowded as it is near a few towns
  • South: very windy making the beach days and sunset cruises a little tricky.

The West is an obvious choice, but weddings are expensive so the East it was! Now for the best finding ever – The Ambre Resort is located in a cove, so it is sheltered from the wind!! So it is the West quality with the East price. Jackpot!

Our Experience:

We wasted no time in getting our honeymoon started. We left our wedding at Suikerbossie in Hout Bay at 12:05 am, spent 3 hours in our hotel room in Camps Bay and left on our flight at 6am, CPT-JNB – JNB-MRU.

We arrived at 4pm and planned to go straight to our room. You have not experienced “tired” until you have had a wedding. You dont sleep the night before as you’re too excited and anxious, you don’t sleep the night of (removing hair-extensions take some time for the groom to figure out) and all the times in between this no sleep period, you experience every emotion in the world! Basically, we were exhausted. But on on way to our room, Ambre hit us! WOW is it beautiful, the shows the food…

We finally arrived in our room later that evening. We jumped in to the white sheets and I (Mrs Wanderer) cuddled up in all the fluffy pillows and duvets and started crying. Mr Wanderer didn’t even have to ask and just started laughing. The bed was that amazing!!

Our favourite parts of the week:

The BEDS!! It’s our honeymoon, leave us!

Supping around the resort – these were all complimentary to the resort guests

no children rule! Not that we don’t like kids, but not having crying or screaming kids dive bombing in the pool all day really makes a difference! Everyone was so chilled and relaxed and I really think the no kiddies rule has something to do with creating that vibe! When we have kids, this is definitely the resort we will escape to when we have an anniversary or something!!There are plenty beach beds in all shapes and sizes! We snuck down after breakfast each morning to claim one of these round beds!

The beach!

The pool area is very big so you never feel squished or out of a chair!

The couples massage (we had a discount on because we booked the honeymoon suite) on the beach

Followed by a secluded jaccuzi

Amazing FOOD!!
